Announcements For January 27, 2010
All State and Region Band
Congratulations to our 11 students who are members of the All State Band! Cario is first in the state with the most students in the All State Band. Congratulations as well to the 60 students who are in the Region Band! We are first in the region and have increased our number of students in Region Band from last year. All the practice and hard work does pay off!
Student selected to Region and All State Bands are required to attend the clinic as stated in the band handbook. Students must have all forms turned in. More details about both clinics will be available as the date nears.
Region Band Clinic
- February 26 & 27 at Charleston Southern University.
- Transportation to and from the clinic each day is the responsibility of the parents.
All State Clinic
- March 11-14 at Furman University in Greenville.
- Transportation to and from the clinic provided by Cario Band.
Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is Cario’s premier performing ensemble. The Symphonic Band is the ensemble that represents Cario Middle School in the South Carolina Concert Festival and is made up of selected 7th & 8th graders. The symphonic practice schedule is every Monday and Thursday through April 1 at 7:15am in the band room. Absences from rehearsals will affect the student's membership in this ensemble. There is a challenge opportunity on February 15 where students who are currently not in symphonic band can attempt to beat out current members. It is very important that students chosen for this group understand that it is our TOP group and preparation is a must. Seats are not guaranteed if music is not learned.
Rehearsals at 7:15 a.m.
- Thursday, January 28th
- Monday, February 1st
- Thursday, February 4th (NOT Wednesday, Feb. 3rd as previously emailed)
Spring Fundraiser
Our final fundraiser of the year kick's off this Thursday, January 28th. We will be selling Flowers and Chocolates. Look for the packet that will come home with your student. This is your last opportunity to supplement your student's band account. Fundraising credits can be used towards fees and trips payments. Each student earns 75% of the profits from their sales.
Flowers: We are using the wonderful nursery, Fowler’s. The plants arrive for pick up in April. These are beautiful, full, healthy plants. There are varieties for shade and sun. The flower fundraiser runs through Thursday, February 18th.
See’s Chocolates: The company we are using for the chocolates is called See’s. This is a long established company based in California. We will have a variety of items to purchase from mixed boxed chocolates to specialty Easter products. These are delicious and good quality chocolates and will arrive in time for Easter. If you are from the West Coast, you know the See’s name. The Candy fundraiser runs through Thursday, February 11th.
Thank You from Mrs. DuPuis
Thank you to all the band families for the gift cards, yummy treats, greeting cards, kind words, and gifts this holiday season. You are all so generous, and it is a pleasure to teach where families appreciate music education as much as the Cario families do.
SmartMusic
Please remember to check regularly for SmartMusic assignments and complete them on time as they are no longer available for completion after the due date.

Area Rug Needed for Practice Room
The practice classroom in the front of the gym building that the band uses is in need of one or two large area rugs. It gets very loud in there without anything on the floor or walls to tone down the sound. If you have a rug that you would like to donate to the band, the directors and students would really appreciate it! The rug needs to be 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 in size for good coverage and also needs to be rolled up and put to the side when not in use. Please contact asstdirector@cariobands.org if you can help the band with this.
