Spring Flower Sales
Fundraising packets are due in the band room Tuesday, Feb 22nd. Volunteers will be outside the band room to collect packets from students beginning at 8 a.m. Start your day with a quick trip to the band room, and drop off your spring flower sales packets!
Parent Volunteers Needed! I could really use 3 or 4 parents to help collect and tally flower sales packets on Tuesday morning from 8 a.m. until about 11 a.m. Please e-mail me back if you can help out! Thanks.
All-Hands Booster Meeting
Tuesday, Feb 22nd at 7 p.m. in the gym. Among other things, we will showcase the SCMEA Symphonic Band performance! It was awesome - don't miss out! We will also award student prizes for the fall pie and fruit sales. And, of course, we'll have our prize drawing for the "Boost the Band" platinum level contributors ~ must be present to win! Please join us.
SCMEA CDs
We will be taking orders at the Booster Meeting for anyone interested in purchasing a copy of the SCMEA recording. The cost is $10 per CD, and once I place the order, we should have the CDs within about a week or 10 days.
For anyone who bought the CD directly from Bandlife last Friday, there were some issues with the product that was reproduced on site. Bandlife will replace those purchased CDs with the re-mastered version at no cost. I do not know who all bought on-site! If you are not on the below list, and want your CD replaced, please contact me and let me know that prior to Monday, Feb 21st.

Region 4 Band Clinic
Friday and Saturday, Feb 25th & 26th. Transportation for this event is on your own. The clinic will be held at West Ashley High School. Please check-in at 8 a.m. Seating of the bands begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. Junior Symphonic Band please report to the Chorus Room. Junior Concert Band please report to the Drama Room. (These rooms are located through the right-side doors inside the check-in area and are subject to change. Things should be clearly marked. If you feel lost, ask for help!) Please send your student with $5 for lunch, and pocket money for vending machines during scheduled breaks. (See complete details on the website under "Competitions & Events.")
Parents: I'm looking for help with chaperones during this event. Shifts are as follows:
- Friday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (could use 2 extra parents for lunch help)
- Friday from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
- Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon
Mostly, you just sit and enjoy the clinic. (Bring a book!). I will need help with the lunch break on Friday from those chaperones. Lunch break is from 12 - 2 p.m. We will order in pizza, and provide drinks and snacks. PLEASE respond if you have a participating student and can help out for a few hours. It's an amazing process to watch this clinic turn into Saturday's concert! Come be a fly on the wall - you won't be sorry!
Saturday's concert begins with the Junior Concert Band, with warm-ups at 3 p.m. and performance at 3:30. This is followed by the Junior Symphonic Band, then the High School Clinic Band, then the High School Senior Band. Cario has 45 students participating - come out and support our kids, and take care of some 2nd semester concert credits at the same time! It's a great afternoon!
Safety Reminder
Parents, when your student is traveling with the band, please remember to inform Mr. Scott if you will be taking your child with you following the event, preferably beforehand and in writing. This is a liability issue on the part of our band program, and more importantly, a safety issue on the part of our students. We have no way to make an accurate head-count, and be sure that all students are on the buses prior to departure, if students are leaving the group to travel home with their parents without any notice. Please help us to help keep our kids safe!
Interim Grades
Please be advised that there will be no band grades recorded on 3rd quarter interim reports for band students. Between laptop-swapping, and the SCMEA performance, and a recent decrease in parent-help for the band room, interim grades were not prepared and submitted in time for the interim reports. Mr. Scott plans to send home a separate report once everything has been caught up.
That's it for now - enjoy the long weekend!. More next time.
Thanks. Pat McM. 216-3549.
