Announcements (Lengthy!) For Week Ending September 3rd
Spirit Saver Orders Are Due...
on Tuesday, August 31st. Volunteers will be in front of the Band Room beginning at 8 a.m. to collect orders from band students. Please make sure your payments add up to your orders, place the order form and the payments in a sealed envelope with your student's name on it, and drop your orders by the Band Room before the school day begins! We want to deliver the coupon books during class on Thursday, September 2nd, and need some time to log them all in and turn them around. DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE YOUR ORDER FORMS! We will return them to you with your packet of coupon books so that you can then deliver to your customers. Thanks for supporting our band!
(Note from Treasurer: orders are being turned in with no student's name, checks and cash are being turned in with no order form, payments and orders are not matching up-- please take a moment to check your orders before turning them in, and be sure to put everything in a marked envelope-- this is not only for our recordkeeping, but for your protection as well!! Thank you.)
Anyone Renting an Instrument from the Band Program!
If you are renting an instrument through the Cario Band Program, please e-mail our treasurer, Becki Bowman, at treasurer@cariobands.org and give her the following information: 1) student name, 2) instrument type & serial number, 3) have you signed your contract and returned it to the band room. We are missing contracts on many of our school-owned instruments, and need to get the inventory straightened out. Thanks for your help. (Rental agreements can be printed from the website at cariobands.org/Forms.)
Breaking News!!!
The Cario Symphonic Band has been selected as THE ONLY MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND to perform at the South Carolina Music Educators' Association Conference in February, 2005! This is a HUGE honor in recognition of our program's excellence! Preparations for this event's performance are already underway, and exact details will be posted as soon as they become available. For now, mark your calendars for sometime right around the middle of February. Congratulations to Mr. Scott and Mrs. DuPuis -- we know we have the best that music education has to offer, and now so does everyone else! This invitation puts us on the map!!!
Symphonic Band Auditions......
will be held from the middle to the end of September. Auditions will take place in the Band Room after school on selected dates during that timeframe. Exact details will be announced in the next few days. In the meantime, audition packets will be available in the Band Room beginning next week, (Aug 30th - Sep 3rd). All 7th and 8th grade students are strongly encouraged to participate in the audition process. All 6th grade students who have received at least one full year of classroom band instruction are also invited to audition. The Symphonic Band, with the full range of instrumentation, is selected from the top 60 to 68 auditioning band students, with approximately 150 students who are eligible! So get ready, and good luck!!!
Lost and Hopefully To Be Found!
Jackson Clark, one of our 7th grade band members, is missing his Yamaha alto sax and his theory books. It appears these items have disappeared from the Band Room. PLEASE check to see if you have mistakenly ended up with Jackson's instrument and books, and if so, return them promptly to the Band Room. A reward from the Band Boosters is offered for the safe return of Jackson's belongings. Please help us find Jackson's sax!
Please note: The willful removal of items from the Band Room that do not belong to the student taking them is grounds for IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL from the Band Program. Please make sure your instrument and books are properly labeled for your protection!
Heads Up, 8th Graders!
8th Grade Night with the Bands of Wando is scheduled for Friday, September 10th. There will be a rehearsal on Thursday, September 9th at approximately 6 p.m. We're still waiting on details from the Wando Band Room, but this is a required event for Cario 8th graders, so please mark your calendars!
Tuxedo Fittings
Jason from Black Tie will re-visit the Band Room on Thursday, September 2nd during 1st period, (8:30-9:20), to measure for tuxedos for any students who were not fitted on August 12th. This will be mostly 1st period 7th graders who were not fitted due to the fire drill. 7th & 8th grade students in classes other than 1st period band, please see Mr. Scott for a pass to visit the Band Room during this time. We will notify families when the tuxedos come in, and you will pick up your tuxedos at Black Tie, (have your student try it on before leaving the store!), and make payment directly to the store.
Band Room Forms Check
If you have not yet submitted your packet of band forms, please do so ASAP! These forms are required to be on file in the Band Room, and we need your contact info for our database. If you have misplaced your forms, they can be printed out directly from our website at cariobands.org.

Our first ever Dinner Cruise is scheduled for Sunday, October 24th from 7 to 9 p.m. There are only 200 tickets available for this exclusive "adults only" event! Practice Charts Due Each Friday
Just a reminder that practice charts are due each Friday for the homework grade, and can be found in the Band Room on the table beneath the window to Mr. Scott's office. Band students are expected to practice 30 minutes a day, 5 days each week. Extra credit is given for private lessons, and private lesson charts are available in Mr. Scott's office. Both of these forms can also be printed directly from the website at cariobands.org.
WHEW! That was long!
