Announcements for Week Ending October 15th
Band Shirts
Polo shirts for 6th graders and t-shirts for 7th & 8th graders were sent home with all band students late last week. Please double check for yours, as several 6th grade polo shirts have been discovered laying around the 6th grade hallways, and are by now probably in the school lost and found. Replacement shirts, if needed over the course of the year, will be provided to students at cost, as we only budget for one shirt per student at the beginning of the year.
Student Accounts
Student account statements were either e-mailed or stamp-mailed to all band families several weeks ago. With our big "all hands" meeting next week, and our first major fundraiser on the books, if you'd like an update or an explanation, please contact our treasurers, Becki and Greg Bowman, at 216-9974 or treasurer@cariobands.org prior to next week's meeting. Also, we're still looking for rental agreements and payments for students who rent an instrument through the program. Same contact info as above. School-owned instruments that do not have a signed contract on file and payment on account are subject to forfeit.
Symphonic Rehearsals
Oops - forgot to check the school calendar, and next Wednesday, October 13th, is an early release day (1:30 for Cario) for CCSD. That day's symphonic rehearsal is cancelled, and we will officially begin regular Wednesday symphonic practice the following week, on October 20th from 3:30 to 5:15. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the heads up from several of our band parents. Good catch!
Symphonic Sectionals
Symphonic sectionals will begin the week of Oct. 18th according to the following schedule, so all symphonic students and families, please mark your calendars:
Mondays from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. Brass sectionals w/ Mrs. DuPuis
Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. Woodwinds sectionals w/ Mr. Scott
Percussion sectionals are held during class time w/ Mr. Masie. Any additional percussion sectionals will be announced as scheduled.
"All-Hands" Booster Meeting Tuesday, October 12th at 7 p.m. in the Gym
The 6th and 7th grade bands are gearing up for their 2004-05 debut performances at our first "all-hands" band parents meeting next Tuesday! (see below) All band parents should have received the meeting notice as an insert in their cruise invitations, detailing a few of the items on the agenda. The "official" agenda will be posted on the website as soon as I sit down and figure it all out. This is an important meeting, as we must pass our operational budget for the school year, and also begin planning for the all-county band auditions to be held at Cario on Saturday, Dec 4th. We will need about 150 volunteers to pull this off in order to keep the shifts to 3 hours or so. Also, we will be asking for donations of various items for the day, including cases of drinks, paper products, assorted chips, fruit and veggie trays, baked goods, etc. If we could come up with our 150 volunteers, and have another 100 families make a donation of needed items, everyone would have a hand in hosting a successful event on behalf of the Cario Bands Program. Something to think about. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the booster meeting. We'll need all the help we can get for this one! Thanks.
7th grade band will perform a selection at the beginning of the evening! Uniform is new Cario Bands t-shirt and blue jeans. 7th grade band students have a call time of 6:15 p.m. for set up of the formation and warm up.
6th grade band will perform a selection to close out the evening! Uniform is new Cario Bands polo shirt and blue jeans. 6th grade students do not need to arrive any earlier than the 7 p.m. meeting time, but are asked to report to the band room upon their arrival for warm up with Mrs. DuPuis. 6th grade students will be asked to break down the formation at the end of the evening.
Dinner Cruise
Dinner Cruise tickets are still available by mailing your order to:
Cario Dinner Cruise
1247 Colfax Court
Mount Pleasant, SC 29466
We have incredible door prizes - you won't want to miss out on this one! (I'll publish the prize list as soon as it's complete, probably in the next few days.)
Box Tops Contest
We're getting close to the deadline for the next box tops contest, so keep clipping and be sure to turn them in, (envelope or ziploc bag with student's name included), no later than Monday, October 25th. NancySue Platz and Linda Joseph always have GREAT prizes for the kids who turn in the most, and the best way to say "thank you" to them for their hard work is to participate! And don't forget your Campbells Soup labels for the PTSA. The turn-in boxes are both in the band room - box tops is tall and green and sits on the floor just outside Mr. Scott's office, and soup labels is a little bigger than a shoe box, and sits on top of the filing cabinet closest to Mr. Scott's office. Just look around - they're both hard to miss!
Thanks - more soon.
Pat McM. 216-3549.
