Announcements for Week Ending October 22nd
Last Tuesday's Booster Meeting
Thank you to all our families who came out on Tuesday for the band booster meeting, and to all of you who signed up to help, filled out forms, picked up statements, donated to "boost the band," did I forget anything? And a HUGE thank you to our 6th beginner, 7th advanced, and 8th jazz bands for providing the entertainment. Great job!
Band Grade Sheets
Band grade sheets have been sent home with all band students. This is separate from the actual report card. Grade sheets should be parent-signed and returned to Mr. Scott by Monday, Oct 18th - counts as a quiz grade, so be sure to check with your student! The grade sheet shows the range of scores for your student's class on a bar indicating "lowest to highest" score, along with that class' median score. It also shows your student's grade, along with the average class grade. Each graded component of the first quarter is listed separately so you can see where your student excels and where improvement is needed. Please sign and return the grade sheet by Monday for class credit.
Student Account Statements
For anyone who did not pick up a student account statement at Tuesday night's booster meeting, leftover statements were parcelled out and given to the homeroom teachers for inclusion with report cards. Be sure to check for that in your student's envelope. All student account questions may be directed to our treasurers, Becki and Greg Bowman at treasurer@cariobands.org.
Private Instructors for Saxophone
Saxophone instructor Jack Pettit is leaving the area, and John Slate is pretty much booked solid. This leaves the sax instructor list pretty thin. We are working on finding additional instructors, and will post names and phone numbers as we get them. If you know of anyone who teaches lessons on any of the instruments, please pass that information on to Mr. Scott so he can check it out. Your local church music ministry is a great potential source for building up our private instructor list!
Symphonic Band Schedule
The full symphonic band schedule kicks in this coming week. Brass sectionals are Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. Full symphonic rehearsal on Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. - please note change in dismissal time! Woodwind sectionals are Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. This is the weekly schedule from here on out. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated to the students during class and posted on the website under "new and notable" and in the weekly announcements. If you want to start marking your calendar, the current schedule, (including all known changes at this time), is posted on the website under Master Calendar. Things switch around a bit beginning Thanksgiving week and leading up to the December winter concerts, so heads up!
Tuxedos
Tuxedos are scheduled to arrive at Black Tie in the next few days. Our sales rep, Jason Maglaughlan, has asked that girls come to the store beginning Wednesday, Oct 20th through about Monday, Oct 25th. Boys will pick up beginning Monday, Oct 25th through about Friday, Oct 29th. Please note that delivery schedules are always subject to change - call before you go! Black Tie is located on Hwy 17 on the right-hand side just before the light at Wando Crossing, which is the Wal-Mart shopping center. Telephone: 884-4349. Hours of operation Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 5.
Dinner Cruise
One last plea for anyone who wants to join us on the dinner cruise. Tickets are $30 each, which includes the cruise, Wild Wing Cafe buffet, Atlanta Bread Company desserts, complimentary beer/wine/other beverages, live entertainment, and some great door prizes, including a get-away package from the Francis Marion Hotel in downtown Charleston. The cruise is Sunday, Oct 24th from 7 - 9 p.m., boarding out of Patriot's Point at 6:30 p.m. We will continue to sell tickets until Tuesday, and you can use me as a point of contact, so think about it and jump on board!
Pies & Fruit Coming Our Way!
Student packets for our holiday pies and seasonal fruit fundraisers will be sent home on Thursday, Oct 28th. Pie sales will run thru Friday, Nov 5th. No late orders on the pies - we have to fax in our order over that weekend in order to be guaranteed delivery prior to Thanksgiving, so we only have a one week sales window. Fruit sales will run thru Friday, Nov 19th, with delivery on Dec 9th and 10th. You can find product and pricing information about the pies on the website under fundraising, then holiday pies. Fruit products and prices will be posted in the next day or two, so check it out.
PTSA Halloween Dance
The first PTSA student dance is scheduled for Friday, Oct 22nd in the Cario cafeteria from 6:30 to 9 p.m. - Halloween costumes and all! All PTSA cardholders will be admitted to the dance for free! Pizza and drinks will be sold at the PTSA concession stand, and the band boosters will be manning the candy stand. Great DJ, great fun! Sorry, parents - unless you're working one of the concession stands, this one is for kids only!
Children's Festival
Mount Pleasant Children's Festival is this Sunday from 12 - 5 p.m. in the Park West Recreation Complex. Local schools are sponsoring food and game booths, with all proceeds going right back to the sponsoring school! Tons of great stuff to do and eat, so come on out and enjoy the festivities!
Don't forget practice charts due each Friday for homework grade.
Thanks.
Pat McM. 216-3549.
