Announcements for the Week Ending May 5, 2006

Food Drive Wrap-Up

The Food Drive wraps up this Wednesday, May 3rd and we don\0xEDt have quite as much canned food and non-perishable goods as we did when we did the books so let\0xEDs fill up those boxes! Food donations will be given to East Cooper Community Outreach. Thank you to Bobbie Grogan and her committee for their help with this Community Service Project.

Solo & Ensemble This Weekend

Solo & Ensemble is this Saturday, May 6th. Solo and Ensemble Audition times have been posted in the band room. Your student will need an original copy of music for the judges, with clearly numbered measures. Students may use a copy but judges have to have the original music. Westview Middle School, Goose Creek.

Mr. Scott will be handing out maps to Westview to your students this week so ask for them! If they lost the map, go up I-26 to the US 52 exit to Goose Creek. About 4 miles down US 52, take a left on St. James Ave. (US Hwy 176). Go approximately 0.5 mile and turn left on Westview Blvd. Westview Middle School is on your right.

Cedar Creek Flowers

This is the second week for flower pickup from Cedar Creek Nursery. Please make sure all vouchers have been distributed to your customers. Last day for pickup is Friday, May 5th. Cedar Creek will be calling customers towards the end of the week to remind them to pick up their orders, so make sure you have gotten those vouchers out!

5th Grade Mouthpiece Testing

5th Grade mouthpiece testing is Monday, May 8th, from 4:30-7:30 pm in the band room. We need volunteers to help with registration, monitoring the band room for traffic flow. There will be two shifts -- one from 4 - 6 pm and one from 6 - the end. If you can help out, please contact Nan Jenkins at volunteer@cariobands.org and let her know which shift you can work. Thanks!

Thanks!

A big thank you for all of the volunteers, especially Joanna Hoover, for hosting Miss Sabrina and Mr. Scott\0xEDs wedding shower. Everyone enjoyed celebrating this big event. In addition, good luck to Mr. Scott on May 14th as he prepares to complete his National Board Certification and Testing.

Carowinds Trip Coming Up!

The 6th grade trip to Carowinds is coming up Saturday, May 13th. Concert attire is Cario t-shirt (to be passed out in class) and khaki shorts that meet school dress codes (no Sophees and they must be the proper length). Due to National Board testing, Mr. Scott will not be attending, however Mrs. DuPuis will be conducting the performance and Ms. Stacy Moss, Assistant Principal, will be an additional administrative chaperone.

Mr. Scott has a limited amount of Carowinds discount tickets for parents that might want to come up and spend the day at Carowinds. These tickets will give you $20 off the regular gate price ($49.99)and can be used to purchase up to 6 tickets/voucher -- that's $29.99/ticket. The $20.00 Off Coupons are limited and will be available on a first come-first serve basis with a written request to Mr. Scott. Upon receiving the note, Mr. Scott will give your student the coupon. If you miss out on the coupon, you can still state at the gate you are there with Cario Middle School Band and receive the group rate at $34.00/ticket.

End of Year Awards/Honor Concert

The End of Year Awards Concert will be Thursday,May 18th at the Cario Gym at 7 pm. Call time for students will be 6:15 pm.

Please note, rehearsal schedules will be reposted on the Band Webpage Master Schedule to reflect the May 18th concert date, as soon as times are arranged.

BoxTops Wrap-Up

Our Box Top Mom wants to wrap up and send in one last collection. Please have Box Tops sent to the band room by May 19th. The band will participate in Box Tops next year, please be sure to save over the summer!

Ink Jet Cartridge Call

Ink Jet cartridges are needed by May 19th, as we want to finish up for the year and stash away a few for Mr. Scott to have available for next August. Please send those to the band room and save those over the summer.

Best of Cario Bands CD

Best of Cario Bands 2006 CD information will be available at the Awards Concert.

Still Need Board Positions Filled for Next Year

We still need someone to put themselves forward as a nominee for VP for Fundraising. This can be a joint position if you and your best friend would like to volunteer together. This position requires some 'class time' work when fundraisers are kicking off but for the most part, it entails recruiting chairs for each of the fundraisers, troubleshooting any problems that come up, and making initial contact with vendors. The vendors and fundraising events are already in place -- we've done all of them for two or more years so most of the problems and glitches are worked out -- so consider this carefully and come join our team! We have a lot of fun while we help our students and directors become the best in the state! Contact any current board member and let them know you'd be interested or call Nan (884-6355) or Becki (216-9974).

7th Grade Exit Exam

The 7th grade exit exam will be conducted the week after the End of the Year concert. The exam will consist of the 7 major scales and an 8 measure etude that Mr. Scott will be handing out soon.

Interim Grades

Mr. Scott has indicated that interim grades will not include a grade from band because most of this 9 week's grades are from concert evaluations, essays, and pass-offs that have not been completed yet. The only grades entered so far are the practice chart grades which are not representative of all the work your student is doing this 9 weeks.

End of the Year Party

To top off the year, plans are being arranged for the End of the Year Party. Mr. Scott will be honeymooning during the end of the year and plans are being finalized to move the party date up, so that Mr. Scott will be present. We are trying to work out a new date/location to have an After School End of Year Party to accommodate all of the band students. More info to come ASAP. We apologize for the schedule change, however if you marked your work calendars to take the afternoon off, please put that date on hold for now.

Last But Not Least!

As you make plans for the summer, please note that, due to construction and summer building use, Cario Middle School will not be holding a Summer Band Camp. Please contact Mr. Scott if you are interested in information concerning some various music camps that are available around South Carolina during the summer.

Whew!! That was long but it should get you caught up for the rest of the year....minor (???) updates in the next few weeks!
