Announcements For the Week of November 6, 2008

Band Room Etiquette for All Band Parents

Please be aware that even in the band room, that class is in session and instruction is being delivered until the dismissal bell at 3:35p. If you are entering the band room prior to the final bell of the day to retrieve an instrument for your student, you disrupting class time. This is not allowed and is proving to be a problem with the effectiveness of keeping the class's attention. Specific students have been given permission by Mr. Scott to enter the class room during this time and have been trained specifically on how to enter and exit without interrupting the class. If you do not have specific permission from Mr Scott, please do not enter until the school day is over. Also remember it is against Charleston County School District policy to on school grounds during school without first having checked in with the front office.

Florida Trip

Be on the look out for information on the trip. It will be coming out soon.

Notes From the Treasurer

Please help us clarify your payments. When paying by check, please include the students first and last name on the memo line, and what the payment is for. With the amount of things going on at any given time, and the wide variety of family constructs, being as specific as possible on the front end saves an enormous amount of time and errors. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Reminder, if you are not fundraising, your final band fee installment is due November 20, 2008.

Concert Opportunity

A concert opportunity is coming up this Thursday, November 20th. The Wando High School Band (fresh from their fourth 5A State Marching Band win!) will be performing their Winter Concert at the Wando Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. This is a great way to get one of the required 2 outside concerts/semester done.

Fruit Fundraiser Update

Don’t forget to keep selling the delicious fruit!

Orders are due Friday, November 14th.

Volunteers will be needed to help count and verify fruit orders on Friday, 11/14, from 8am to about 11am.

If you are interested, either email or call Alison at wachowsk@comcast.net or 813-5540.

I know some of you have already submitted your fruit orders and that is fine.  I will hold

them until the due date.

Uniform Update

8th grade Jazz students only:  The new Jazz polos were distributed to students in class this week.  These polos ran larger than expected, so if your student would prefer to have a different size (I can order XS adults sizes), please email me ASAP at uniforms@cariobands.org .  I'll be placing another shirt order shortly.  Students should go ahead and turn in unwanted shirts (make sure their name is on the shirt with preferred size).

Lollipops!!!

The November lollipop sales are this Thursday and Friday, November 13th & 14th, in the cafeteria during the lunch periods. Don't forget your dollar!

BoxTops and Campbell's Labels

The BoxTops have been streaming in so thank you. We have joined with the PTSA and will also be collecting Campbell's labels -- PTSA will be getting all the Campbell's labels and in exchange, we will get all the BoxTops the school collects -- a win-win for both of us! So send in your Campbells' labels too!

Practice Makes Perfect!

Mr. Scott asks that students be reminded that practice is an important part of the band program. Students should be practicing at least 30 minutes 5 days a week. Please ensure that your child is doing this homework requirement!
