Announcements For the week of December 4, 2008
Alert
- All County Auditions - 7th and 8th Grade Band students - Saturday, December 6th, 2008 - All Day - Cario Middle School
- All audition times have been posted in the band room and are also accessible on the Band home page.
- Mr. Scott requires Sunday Nice Casual at the auditions. NO JEANS ALLOWED
- Please be there 45 minutes ahead of their posted time. They are to check in at registration and immediately go to the Cafeteria to begin warming up.
- They are not to roam the halls at school. They will not be allowed into the pod for testing until 10 to 15 minutes prior to their posted time. There will be proctors monitoring the hallways for any stragglers or noise makers.
- There will be concessions available for purchase all day. Breakfast items will be available early and the menu will change towards lunch. We will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs.
Concert Schedule
- 6th Grade Full Dress Rehearsal - Monday, December 8, 2008 - 4:00pm-6:30pm - Cario Gym
- 6th Grade Holiday Concert - Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 7:00pm - Cario Gym
- 7th Grade Full Dress Rehearsal - Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - 4:00pm-6:00pm - Cario Gym
- 7th/8th Grade Holiday Concert -Thursday, December 11, 2008 - 7:00pm - Cario Gym
Both concerts have a call time of 6:15 pm and the concert is held in the gym.
Uniform Update
6th grade uniform FAQ's-Students in 6th grade have been asking questions about the required band uniforms, so I thought I'd provide some answers to some commonly asked questions. The reason for the uniform is simple...uniformity. Mr. Scott has very high standards and one way this is reflected is through how the students present themselves at a concert.
- Can I wear brown dress shoes with my uniform? No, shoes must be black dress shoes. No sneakers, not even black sneakers!
- My mom doesn't like the way the pants look. Can I wear another pair of black pants? No, all students must be in black uniform pants purchased from Stagecoach. Make sure any hand-me-downs are the same as the current uniform pants.
- I don't have pants from Stagecoach. Can I wear other black pants? No, all students are required to wear the black uniform pants.
- Can I wear white socks? No, you must wear black socks.
Concert Opportunity
A concert opportunity is coming up Thursday, December 11th. The Wando High School Band will be performing their Holiday Concert at the Wando Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. This is a great way for the all band students to get one of their required outside concerts/semester done.
Florida Trip Update
There has been some communication issues regarding the "Trip Information Sheet and the Trip Commitment Form". If you haven't received an e-flyer with the required forms, information, and payment schedules, make sure your visit the Band home page. It is linked on the Web site for you to download. In an effort to follow the Wando Bands example of "Going Green", we have been trying to post all necessary forms on line so that they can be downloaded. This is a separation from the past where 100's upon 100's of copies are made and distributed to the kids. The vast majority of these ended up in the trash, on the floor, or perhaps are still in the bottom of backpacks across the lowcountry. However, in an effort to close the communication gap, we are going to make a few changes that we hope will help everyone get the information they need in a timely fashion.
- We are attaching to this email the the Information Flyer regarding the trip that we have at this time and that has already been distributed.
- We are are going to extend the deposit deadline until December 12, 2008. Please remember to attach the "Trip Commitment Form" with your deposit checks or the check will be returned.
- We will also make available a limited amount of hard copies of both the forms and information sheets. These can be picked up in the band room.
The initial deposit that will secure a spot on the trip for your child will be $100. This deposit must be attached to the trip "Registration/Commitment" form that you will either download or pick up. The deposit will hold a place for your child and reserved spots will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are 90 spots available and about 150 7th & 8th grade students, so get your deposit in early. Checks should be made out to "Cario Band Boosters" and you should write your child's name & FL Trip on the memo line. Please refer to the band handbook about trip eligibility and requirements. Page 14 in the handbook.
Pie and Fruit Sale Update
Fruit Pick up is Saturday, December 13th from 8:00am to 1:00pm at the St. George Warehouse on Clements Ferry Road. We will email more detailed driving instructions as the pick-up date nears. Remember that the product is perishable and delivery to purchasers should be within 48 hours.
Thank you to all of the parents that came out to help with the pie pick-up as well as the parents who came out to pick up their orders. This year was a great success...everything ran very smoothly.

Please take the time during this holiday season to clip and save the labels that display the boxtop coupons.
Practice Makes Perfect!
Mr. Scott has amended the 6th grader weekly practice time requirements. Originally, the first 9 weeks was at 75 minutes per week. The second 9 weeks was to ratchet up to 150 minutes to parallel the 7th and 8th grade requirements. He has now adjusted this and the second 9 week practice time requirements for the 6th graders is 100 minutes per week. This only 20 minutes per day. He asks that all students be reminded that practice is an important part of the band program. Students should be practicing every week. Please ensure that your child is doing this homework requirement!
Band Payments
The final band fee installment was due by November 20th and is now past due. If you are not fundraising, then the fee should be paid in full this week. Any questions on that can be directed toward the treasurer at treasurer@cariobands.org.
