Trip update

*Please note that seat availability is on a first come first serve basis for all Cario Band trips.

FLORIDA TRIP
The Feb. 2 payment for the Florida trip is now past due.  If you do not plan to participate in the flower or candy fundraisers, please remit your payment now.  All band fees and trip fees must be paid in full before March 25 to go on the trip; however, please do not wait until the last minute to make your payments.  We will work diligently to post fundraiser profits by March 2.  After March 2 or when profits are posted, whichever comes later, any outstanding fees will be due immediately. Be aware that, because this is a competition event and a reward for hard work, all students who have signed up must meet Mr. Scott's qualification criteria  If you have questions or concerns, please contact the trip coordiantor, Mary Dinda, at 849-6801 or uniforms@cariobands.org .

We will schedule an afternoon for students to stay after school to choose their roommates and gather shirt sizes.  We will also go over the rules and expectations.  We also plan to have a parent meeting in the near future and will provide that information as soon as we have it.

CAROWINDS
Mr. Scott is taking 96 students to the 33rd Annual Carowinds Festival of Music May 29.  Be aware that, because this is a competition event and a reward for hard work, all students who have signed up must meet Mr. Scott's qualification criteria. We've had 93 students sign up as of Wednesday and expect to meet the maximum number allowed by Friday.  We will keep a waiting list in case a student needs to drop out.

All State Band and All Region Band Information

Here are the links for the All State and All Region Clinics and Concerts

There have been questions asked regarding conflicting schedules of other activities and the dates of the All State/All Region clinics. Please note that per SCBDA policy, an absence from either the All State clinic or the All Region clinic will result in suspension from all SCBDA events for the following 12 months. This suspension follows the child not the school. For example, an absence by an 8th grader will be enforced at the high school level. Attention "QUEST" program members! There is a conflict with one of the "Quest" competitions. As far as the Band program is concerned, the All State and All Region clinics take priority over this competition. Should a student miss the clinic due to a program such as this, the SCBDA policy will be enforced.

Cario Band Bags for Sale

Deadline to order is Friday, February 6, 2009 ( this is tomorrow )

Cario Band Boosters will be ordering cinch bags, sport bags and garment bags with the Cario Bands logo.  These bags are available for purchase by band students in all grades and their families.  Ordering these bags is optional.  However, we encourage students going on the band trips (Florida and Carowinds) to consider purchasing a cinch bag.  Students who will be performing will also need a garment bag to transport their band uniform while in transit to Florida.  A garment bag will keep the uniform clean and wrinkle free.  All students on the Florida trip will also need a carry-on bag with a change of clothes as their suitcases will be unavailable until the evening of the first day. The sport bag is the same bag used by Wando High band students.  The Cario Bands logo will be embroidered on one side and the student’s name embroidered on the other.  We will place only one order before the Florida trip, so don’t miss out! The deadline to order is February 6, 2009. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED!! Click here for more info and order form. There are also some hard copies in the band room if needed.

Practice Charts

Practice charts continue to be due each week. These are a part of your child's band grade! If your child is not practicing as they should, please encourage them to in order to earn a better grade in the class. But more importantly, to stay on track in band class so that our band can continue to be the best middle school band in the state....leading up to the best high school band in the state. If your child is practicing, it is important to follow through by signing and turning in the practice charts.

This event raises money for the Wando general band fund and will be going toward the Wando uniforms that were purchased this year and the purchase of instruments.

Community Service Project

The next community service is currently under way. We will be supporting the Low Country's Needy Babies....by "Showing Some Love" timed perfectly with Valentine's Day. Look for the drop boxes and posters displaying that "Cario Bands needs you to show some love for the Low Country's needy babies". This community service drive is benefiting Low Country Orphan Relief. They have made some requests to help fill their specific needs including diapers, wipes, pacifiers, onesies, bottles - so feel free to throw one of these items into your cart when you are out shopping this weekend. Please remember, no formula or food items will be accepted this year.

Thank You and Show Some Love
