Announcements For the week of March 04, 2009

ATTENTION SYMPHONIC BAND

Mr Scott would like to commend those members of the symphonic band who come to practices prepared. Prepared means on time, with instrument, with music, having practiced said music, and eager to perform. According to Mr. Scott this description applies to approximately one half of the current Symphonic Band. To the remaining half, Mr. Scott issues a warning. If you do not know your music by Friday, there will be swift consequences. To be clear, or you will be required to attend additional morning and weekend rehearsals, and or you will be terminated from the performance/competition. As of this Friday, March 6, 2009, student must know their music or "bands" will be cut from the program-Concert Festival.

Attention Parents of Symphonic Band

Please help your student succeed by ensuring a timely arrival to all morning rehearsals, monitoring practices at home, and by following through on practice chart documentation. This will go a long way to insure a quality performance by our band. Please note that simply turning in a practice chart does not guarantee that quality practice is taking place. Mr. Scott can hear those children that are improving and even more so those that are not. Make sure your child is spending quality practice time for the times that are submitted at week's end.

Concert Festival

The concert festival for our symphonic band will be on March 25th. Concert Festival is an adjudicated contest to evaluate our performance as a musical ensemble. Details to follow.

Symphonic Band Percussionists: Reminder

There will be a rehearsal after school on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. The rehearsal will last until 4:30pm.

Concert Opportunity

The Charleston Wind Ensemble will be performing in Concert on  Sunday, March 8, 2009 at 3pm. The performance will be at  West Ashley High School. This is an opportunity to satisfy a concert requirement.

We have started a waiting list in case a student needs to drop out.

**Thank you to all those great band parents that volunteered to chaperon our Florida and Carowinds trips. To date, we have filled all of our chaperon positions. If you were selected for the Florida trip, you should already have received notification and information from the trip coordinator. Please note, if you have volunteered, we are keeping you name on a standby list in case one of our chaperones must cancel. We have not notified the Chaperones for the Carowinds trip at this time. Thank you again for offering your time.
