Announcements For the Week of March 16, 2009
All State Band
It was a wonderful weekend! We did shine. 75% of all of the All State solo's were performed by Cario Students! You Guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for your hard work and Thank you to those parents that attended this State event. It was a wonderful showing for Cario. WE ARE SO PROUD OF ALL OF YOU. The 7th and 8th Grade Symphonic Bands will be performing on Thursday, March 19th at 7pm in the gym. Full black uniform is required, call time is 6:30pm First, let me clear up any misunderstandings that may be circulating out there regarding a message via email from Mr. Scott regarding the Carowinds trip. A few definitions, suspend; to stop temporarily: cancel; to annul, to revoke, to end. The Carowinds trip has been suspended not canceled. There is a difference. As of the email, the 6th grade students were told that reinstatement of the trip would depend on their behavior in class going forward. This sounds rather straight forward, however, while Mr. Scott was attending All State, the report to him from the Substitute teacher was less than appealing. Talking, outright disobedience, horseplay resulting in equipment damage, do I need to go on. As a result of this, the Trip status is as follows. Those children that do not seem to be responding to the warnings will be individually selected and not allowed to go on the trip. If the overall behavior of the rest of the group does not improve to Mr. Scott's criteria, then the entire trip will be canceled. Therefore, it is very premature to request a refund for the trip at this time. We will deal with this issue if and when the time arises. To date several children in the 6th grade band class have been suspended from the Band program for the remainder of the 3rd Nine Weeks. Further disciplinary action is pending. It is Mr. Scott's hope and intention to penalize only those that deserve it. The concert festival for our symphonic band will be on March 25th. Concert Festival is an adjudicated contest to evaluate our performance as a musical ensemble.The Festival is at Burke High School. Tentatively, we will leave at approximately 12:30 from Cario by bus, we will warm up at 4:15, perform at 4:45, and return to Cario at 6:45pm. Your child will need to bring his/her black dress uniform to school with them that day. Reminder!!! The delivery dates are below. For those students who will be moving on to the Wando Marching Band this summer, The Wando band has posted the summer rehearsal schedule on their band web site for help in planning summer vacations. It is extremely important to attend all of the listed rehearsals, so please try to schedule vacations around them. ** We will be having a parent meeting on Monday, March 16, 2009. Florida information packets will be distributed for all Students that have no outstanding fees. Student account balances will be checked prior to this meeting to determine eligibility status for each child.
