Announcements For the Week of April 21, 2009

Concert Update

Alert!!! The Jazz/Percussion Concert scheduled for this Thursday April 23, 2009 has been postponed and will be rescheduled. We will get you the information as soon as we get it.

Carowinds Update

The payment deadline for the Carowinds trip was last Friday, April 17, 2009. We have updated the roster, and posted it in the band room. The waiting list has been activated and those on the waiting list that are current with all fees have been placed on the trip roster. Children on the trip roster with an asterisk by their name have been removed from the trip list and placed on the waiting list. In order to be placed back on the roster, you must contact the trip coordinator, Mary Dinda at uniforms@cariobands.org, and resolve any issues. Please remember that in order to be eligible to travel on trips with the band, ALL fees and ALL paperwork must be current. This includes the yearly band fees of $175, the Carowinds trip fee, and any outstanding band documents. Paying one without paying the other will render your child ineligible for trips, as will not having all band forms on file. If the the child is listed as CONFIRMED, then no action is needed. If there is an ASTERISK * by the child's name, you will need to contact Mary Dinda at uniforms@cariobands.org as soon as possible in order to clear up any issues outstanding. By tomorrow, any child with an asterisk by his or her name will be sent home with a reminder that there are unresolved issues that must be addressed. Please check the band homepage for the link to Carowinds information.

Please note. Interim reports are due out in a week or so. Mr. Scott will review the grades and behaviors of all students that are confirmed to go on the Carowinds trip. If Mr. Scott feels that either of these is not up to the band standards, then the child will be removed from the trip roster.

Solo and Ensemble

Those band students who have signed up for Solo and Ensemble need to be working on their scales, solos and sight reading. You should be consistently practicing your music NOW! Everyday!! The Solo and Ensemble event is on May 2, 2009 and will be here before you know it!!

Fundraising

We have just received a call from the nursery.  Our order of 54 flats of Vinca are just not ready.  Vincas are a hot weather plant and the greenhouse, which is located in N.C., has had cool, cloudy weather for months.  Not great growing weather!  Needless to say, the Vincas are not ready and they don’t want to send them until after May 1st.

The pickup for all other flowers or plants will be tomorrow, April 22, from 2pm-6pm in front of the cafeteria.  The Vincas will be delivered after May 1st.  We will get you the information as to the time and date of the pickup.

Service Hours Opportunity-If you need service hours please contact Alison Wachowski at fundraising@cariobands.org. She may need help with the flower delivery.

Wando Marching Band Auditions

******Cario students will have Wando band auditions on Monday, May 11,12,13, 2009. Mr. Rush will be coming to the band room at Cario for these 3 days. To prepare for these auditions, the kids should be practicing their scales, sight reading, and their Wando audition solos (which they already have).

For those students who will be moving on to the Wando Marching Band this summer, The Wando band has posted the summer rehearsal schedule on their band web site for help in planning summer vacations. It is extremely important to attend all of the listed rehearsals, so please try to schedule vacations around them. The following link should take you to their web site where the schedule is located on the first page "Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 Calendar". www.Wandobands.org
