Announcements For the Week of June 3, 2009

Upcoming events

Farewell to the graduating 8th Grade Band. Good luck to you all, as we know you will build upon your successes in the Cario Band as you pursue your goals in your high school and college careers. We are so proud of the wonderful legacy that you are leaving the Cario Bands. Congratulations!!!!!

Rental Instrument Update

All school rented instruments were due on Monday, June 1, 2009. There are still instruments that have not been turned in or accounted for. Late fees will be assessed beginning Friday, June 5, 2009. Please remember they should be tuned and cleaned. If you have any tuners or music books borrowed as well, they should be turned in at this time too.

Carowinds Update

Congratulations to all of the 6th Grade Band members that performed so well at Carowinds. We received straight Superiors for the performance!!!!!!

Beach Bash Update

The year end BEACH BASH is this Friday, June 5, 2009. The Cario Band Boosters are sponsoring the event and it will be catered by MOE'S. The registration has now been closed and the food order has been placed. Only those that RSVP for the bash will have food ordered for them and we will go by that list when serving. Please note that we welcome friends and relatives to join us, however, please remember that if they were not included in your RSVP count, they will not have access to food and beverage. We will not be selling lunches or beverages to those that are not on the list and wish to pay for them. Please come join us as we will have volleyball, horseshoes, bocce ball and more. We look forward to a wonderful afternoon of fun.

Note from the Boosters

There are some of you that have past due band fees. The treasurer is currently compiling a list of these students with amounts due. You will soon be notified with a "Statement of Financial Responsibility" with your past due amount. Once notified, a copy of these statements will be turned over to the Cario bookkeeper for further action and collection.

Betsy's Band Closet

In an attempt to help those band students that are scholarshipped into the band or are in some other way hardshipped, we are creating Betsy's Band Closet. We will be creating an inventory of used band uniforms. If you have uniform pieces that are still in good shape and not going to be used again, we will gladly accept these types of donations as we establish the Betsy's Band Closet. We will accept shirts, pants, dresses, shorts, and shoes. If you have any of these types of items and wish to donate them, you can drop them off at the Band room any time. We will also be accepting donations at the Beach Bash on Friday. Thank you for your support in this effort to create an asset that will benefit Cario Band students for years to come.

Letter From Mr. Scott

"As we rapidly approach Summer Vacation, I wanted to take the time to thank our students, parents and staff for yet another terrific year. The successes we have experienced are only the result of many people’s hard work.I would like to thank our booster club and its officers for all the financial and physical support throughout the year.I would especially like to thank the parents who volunteered to serve as officers with the booster club. Many people do not understand the hours of generous time donated to help give our kids the very best possible. In particular, I believe Dave and Betsy deserve recognition for taking the reins of the organization and leading us through a very productive year.I encourage you to support Sue Gonzales as she takes over the program and forms our future board.I hope that some of our outstanding parents will choose to step up and join us to help provide the best music education to your children.

Next, I would like to thank our staff for their dedication to our students.Susan DuPuis, our assistant director, is a great friend and a wonderful teacher.I hope everyone knows just how talented Susan is.I simply couldn’t ask for a better team member. We are also pleased to announce that Maralee Barela, our outstanding student teacher will be joining us two days per week next year to offer our woodwinds some much deserved attention. She is extremely talented and a great addition to the staff.I would also like to thank Jon McMahan for giving us his time to teach our percussion students. He has been instrumental in making sure the percussion students get off to a good start. We also owe a debt of gratitude to our private lessons teachers for giving their time to help our outstanding students.

Finally, and obviously, the most recognition should go to our students, who took care of business once again. As most of you know, my focus is not solely on music, but also on teaching kids to expect and strive for success. Our students have once again stepped up, followed through and met the challenge. This year we graduate out many amazing children and pass them to other teachers with our best wishes and hopes for continued success. They now join a select group of students, two decades of kids “who got the job done”.Congratulations!I hope that they keep in touch for many years to come.Today I received a gift from a departing eighth grader….it was a success book. That gesture makes me believe that some of the message got through.

As for next year, we are already busy planning how to move the program forward with our returning students. Our seventh grade band could be among the best ever and the sixth grade band is our largest so far.We have talked a great deal with the seventh graders about taking over the leadership of the program and I am thrilled with how mature and excited they seem to be in charge.I am excited to see what they are capable of doing.

So, enjoy your summer, and I will see you in August!!"

Mr. Scott

Thank you for a Wonderful and Memorable Year!!!!,

Sincerely

Betsy and Dave Gosnell
