Announcements for the week of September 23, 2009
A big thanks to everyone who came out to Sullivan’s Island last Saturday to participate in the Memorial Beach Sweep! Despite the incredibly high tide, we were still able to collect plenty of trash. I have a small number of participation certificates if anyone planned on counting their time at the beach sweep towards scouts, honor society, church service, etc.
Fundraising Update
Please be sure to turn in your magazine orders, you don't want to miss your chance for some great prizes! The last day to turn them in is Friday, Sept 25th. There is a box marked Magazine Sales in the band room. After orders are turned in and tallied, prizes will be awarded for top sellers. Prizes include 3 iPod shuffles, a $50 iTunes gift card and cash prizes.
If you or your child purchased any spirit items on band night (i.e. magnet, mug) they are in. The items will be in a box with your child's name on them. The box will be by the band door under the white board sign. Please have your student look for them to take home.
Treasurer’s Update
The first $50 installment of band fees is duethis Friday, Sept. 25th. These payments can be placed in the lock box in Mr. Scott’s office or mailed to Cario Band Boosters, 1121-B Park West Blvd., Box 224, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466. Please be sure to include your child’s name and what the payment is for on the memo line of the check. The second installment of $50 is due October 30th, and the final $50 installment is due Nov. 24th. The $25 deposit should already have been paid at this time. Band statements will be sent out in the next couple of weeks.
Uniforms Update
6th Grade Uniforms
Please visit Stagecoach Clothing Store in the Target/Piggly Wiggly Shopping Center off the IOP by the end of September to order the black uniform pants for your 6th grader. We strongly recommend that you take your child to the store to be fitted, as the pants sizes may not coincide with your child’s regular size. Parents are responsible for payment at the store. Stagecoach accepts Greenbax to help reduce the cost of the pants. Stagecoach will make one order at the beginning of October. Mrs. Dinda will deliver the pants and the polo’s together to the students in class in November.
7th and 8th Grade Uniforms
Uniform order forms were due Monday. Please contact Mary Dinda if you did not turn in a form and need to order a uniform.
One of our booster parents, Mrs. Tami Mahan, has generously offered to contribute half of her fees for alterations and hemming of Cario Band uniforms to the band booster club. She lives in Rivertowne and her fees are very reasonable. Please contact her directly if you are need of her services.

Lowcountry Invitational – Concert Opportunity
Wando High School is hosting the Lowcountry Invitational (LCI) on Saturday, October 3rd at the Wando H.S. football stadium. This is a great opportunity to attend a performance as well as support the Wando Band. Seventeen marching bands from the lowcountry area and beyond will be performing. Cario band students get free admission if they are wearing their Cario Bands t-shirt. This is a great way to get one of the outside concert performance requirements completed, as well as see the four time State Champion Wando Marching Band perform! Remember to save a program from the performance, as this is a required "proof" of attendance that should be attached to the write-up. The Concert Evaluation Form can be found in the Forms section of the Cario Bands Website. Please see the LCI flyer for more details.
Save the Date
We are currently planning our spring trip to Disney World in Orlando for 7th and 8th graders. This year the band will be participating in a unique experience through the Disney Fine Arts Youth Program. “You're Instrumental” immerses students into the world of the professional musician. In moments, students will sight read and prepare a polished performance of special Disney musical selections in a "studio recording environment." A professional Disney clinician will examine the skills, attitudes and priorities that are essential to musical excellence. This workshop culminates with a special recording of your ensemble performing music along with a portion of a Disney Animated Feature Film.
The tentative date for the trip is May 20-23rd, 2010. The cost is projected to be $475. This includes, bus transportation, 3 nights accommodations, park entrance fees, and much more. Be sure to watch for more information to come home with your child in the next couple of weeks.
