Announcements For November 11, 2009
SmartMusic
SmartMusic assignments are being added weekly. Please make sure you student logs in to SmartMusic and checks for assignments regularly so they don't miss any due dates.
Lollipop Sales
Lollipops will be on sale in the cafeteria this Thursday and Friday, November 12 & 13. Lollipops are $1 each and come in many great flavors. Remind your student to bring their $$ if they want a treat.
Area Rug for Practice Room Needed
The practice classroom in the front of the gym building that the band uses is in need of a large area rug. It gets very loud in there without anything on the floor or walls to tone down the sound. If you have a rug that you would like to donate to the band, the directors and students would really appreciate it! The rug nees to be 8 x 10 or 10 x12 in size for good coverage and also needs to be rolled up and put to the side when not in use. Please contact asstdirector@cariobands.org if you can help the band with this.
Fundraising Update
The Fruit Fundraiser continues until Monday, November 16th. Forms and photos are available on the home page of cariobands.org. You have one more weekend to make some sales!.
Pie pick-up will be next Wednesday, November 18th at the Brickyard Clubhouse from 3:00-6:30 p.m. Pies must be picked up by 6:30 as there is no freezer storage at the clubhouse. Please be sure to come get the pies you sold so you can get them to your customers for Thanksgiving. If you can help with unloading, sorting and distributing pies, please contact Kim Brower at fundraising@cariobands.org.
Credit for your student's portion of the profits from the pies and fruit they sold will be reflected in the next band statement. Later in the year, there will be another opportunity to add to student accounts with the Candy and Flower Fundraiser.
The band boosters also promote several fundraisers during the year that directly benefit the band general operating fund. These include the "Cario Bands Together for Kids" community service sponsorship campaign (letter writing) that was held in September, QSP magazine sales, BoxTops 4 Education, lollipop sales, Spirit item sales, "Boost the Band', and corporate sponsorships. Although individual accounts do not receive credit from these fundraisers, your student still benefits! Every member of the Cario Bands Program watches, learns, participates, and progresses in an environment of musical excellence. And that excellence is supported and enhanced by all that is provided through our general operating fund and our overall fundraising efforts. When we address the needs of the ensemble as a whole, everybody wins! Thank you for your support of Cario Bands fundraising efforts.
Jazz & Percussion Concert
The Jazz Band & Percussion ensembles will be performing next Tuesday, November 17th at 7 p.m. in the gym. Come out and see what our students have accomplished in the first nine weeks of school. Performing students are required to wear their new jazz band polos, khaki pants, black socks, black shoes, and black belts. Students must be in uniform to perform. Call time for performing students is 6:15 p.m. This concert can also be used for your concert performance evaluation if you are not performing. Dads, we could use some help after the concert putting up chairs and music stands and folding the blue tarps that protect the gym floor. Just come on the floor and lend a hand.
There are a number of things also happening at the concert:
- This concert will also serve as an All Band Booster general meeting. There are just a few items of business to go over, including bylaw revisions.
- Notaries will be available before the concert from 6:15-6:50 to notarize your medical form. Please be sure not to sign your form beforehand, the notary must see you sign the document in order for it to be notarized.
- Uniforms for 6th & 7th graders will be available for pick up from 6:00-6:50 and directly after the concert. See the Uniform Update below.
- A collection box for the Coat Drive will be in front of the gym for you do drop off your outgrown coats & jackets.
- The lost & found box that is located in the band room will be out in front of the gym. Please look through this if your student has lost anything. All items not claimed by the holiday break will be donated.
Community Service Coat Drive
The second of our community service events is in full swing. Please send in your outgrown coats and jackets for children size 6 - 16/18. A collection box is located outside of the band room and there will also be a box at the Jazz & Percussion concert on November 17th. All donations benefit Lowcountry Orphan Relief. The coat drive is ongoing until November 20th.
Concert Opportunity
The Charleston Community Band will be performing Sunday, November 15th at 6 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church on Highway 17N in Mount Pleasant. Mrs. DuPuis will be performing and conducting at this free concert. Please bring a donation of canned food to benefit East Cooper Community Outreach and East Cooper Meals on Wheels. Come out and see Mrs. DuPuis in action and support these local organizations.
Forms Update
At this time, all required forms should be turned into the band room. There are five required forms: Personnel Record, Year Long Permission, Internet Policy, Statement of Responsibility and Medical (two pages). Please note that your child may not travel anywhere with the band unless these forms are on file. This includes Region and All State clinics, Concert Festival, the spring trips to Carowinds and Florida and any other off-campus events that may arise during the school year. Please be sure to get these forms into the bandroom if you have not already done so, it will save the booster volunteers alot of time chasing after them. You may also bring your forms to the concert on November 17th and drop them off there. That way you will know we have them and they are not lost at the bottom of your student's backpack!
Uniforms Update
Uniforms for 6th & 7th graders will be available for pick-up at the concert on November 17th and also during pie pick-up at the Brickyard clubhouse on Wednesday, November 18th. If you are participating in the uniform rental program (7th & 8th grade), the rental forms must be turned in either to the bandroom or when picking up uniforms. Student accounts will not be adjusted until a signed rental form is returned. If you have any questions about uniforms, please contact Mary Dinda at uniforms@cariobands.org.
Spring Florida Trip
The spring Florida trip to Disneyworld is now full. Interested 7th & 8th graders who have not registered may send in a registration form without deposit and will be added to a waiting list.
