Announcements For April 22, 2010
Jazz Band & Percussion Ensemble Concert at Cario Carnivale
The Jazz Band & Percussion Ensemble concert scheduled for April 22nd has been cancelled. Instead the students will be performing Saturday, April 24th at the Cario Carnivale. Call time is 11:30 a.m. in the band room, performance time is 12:30 and all should be wrapped up at 1:30. Students should wear their blue jazz band polo's and khaki shorts.
Book Drive
We are collecting gently used books suitable for students K - 8 and sending them to Charleston County schools whose libraries could use some new additions. Collection boxes will be located in the front office and outside the band room. So do a little spring cleaning and send in your books! The book drive ends April 30th. This will be our last community service drive for the year, let's make it a successful one!
Spring Fundraiser - Flower pick-up
- Wednesday, April 28th, 2-6 p.m.
- Pick-up will be outside in front of the Cario cafeteria
- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to help with pick-up. Please contact Kim Brower at fundraising@cariobands.org if you can help, 2-4 or 4-6.
- FLOWERS MUST BE PICKED UP ON WEDNESDAY as we cannot be responsible for watering and keeping them healthy. Plants not picked up on Wednesday will be donated to a local charity.
Solo & Ensemble
For those students who have signed up for Solo & Ensemble, performance times are posted in the band room and at cariobands.org. Solo & Ensemble will be held at Fort Dorchester High School, 8500 Patriot Blvd. in North Charleston. Students must have an ORIGINAL copy of their music and an AUDITION TICKET. Tickets will not be provided on-site. If your student is using SmartMusic as their accompaniment, they must bring the recording on a cd. Students must be dressed in Sunday best, no shorts, jeans, t-shirts or flip flops. Please contact Mr. Scott at director@cariobands.org or Sue Gonzales at president@cariobands.org with questions.
Instrument testing for rising 6th Graders
If you have a 5th grader who is interested in joining band next year, or have friends with 5th graders, Cario Band will hold Instrument Testing on Tuesday, May 4th from 4:30-7:30 in the band room. This is when your incoming student gets a chance to try out the different instrument mouthpieces or percussion and find out what they're best suited for.
Florida Trip Parent Meeting
Parents of students attending the Florida Trip are asked to attend a parent meeting on Wednesday, May 5th at 7 p.m. in the Cario gym. All parents should have received an email regarding the meeting from our trip coordinator, Mary Dinda. This meeting is for parents only. Handbooks, trip t-shirts, sport & cinch bags (if ordered) and luggage tags will be passed out that evening. Please be sure that at least one parent attends this important meeting.
Beach Bash
Save the date! Our annual end-of-year party will be held June 3rd at Isle of Palms County Park. More details soon.
