Notes from the Directors

6th Grade Only
Uniform Night: We ask that the 6th graders attend Uniform night either on Tuesday, September 10th or Wednesday, September 11th. Since the related arts classes have been shortened this year, we are trying to minimize any disruption to our classes. If you are unable to attend on either of these days, our Uniform Chair will work with your student during their class.
Percussion Students: Mr. Masie has requested and informed the students to bring the Percussion Kit every Tuesday and Friday only. If there is any change to this plan during the year, the students will be informed in class (this will be a rare occurrence).
Lessons Academy
Schedule: The lessons schedule will be emailed to parents within the next few days. The instructors will receive the schedule today, and will contact every student/parent to inform you of the cost and other important instructions prior to your first lesson. Lessons Academy will begin on Wednesday, September 11th. We will post the schedule and room locations for each instructor on the band room doors. Please arrive 10 - 15 minutes prior to your lesson, to locate your room.
Lesson Academy Registration: There are limited spots available for each instrument. If you are interested in participating, please complete the Lessons Academy Registration Form and attach a registration payment of $55 (payable to Cario Band Boosters and note your student's name in the memo line).
7th & 8th Grade Only
The first Practice Chart is due on Friday, September 6th. Please remember to write your name, and have your parent sign the chart.

Mr. Scott and Mrs. Wilkinson

Nan Jenkins Memorial Beach Sweep ~ Saturday, September 21st

Note: This event counts towards the Family Volunteer Band Requirement lasting 2 - 3 hours.

Mark your calendars for September 21st! In memory of our former band booster president, Nan Jenkins, the band will participate in the annual Beach Sweep at Sullivan's Island on Saturday, September 21st. Jill Lofstead, our community service chair, will be checking in Cario Band volunteers at the Fort Moultrie Visitor Center (FMVC) between 8:30 and 9:00 am. We will take a group picture at the visitor center at 8:50 am. We would like to get an estimated number of people who plan on participating. Please send an email to communityservice@cariobands.org to let us know if you are attending (include your student name and the number attending).

Our assigned area on the beach is within walking distance of the Visitor Center. Trash bags and trash forms with clipboard will be supplied for clean-up. Bring gloves, grabbers, sunscreen and bug spray. We will scour the sands until noon or until we're done (whichever comes first). We return to the FMVC to throw away trash in their dumpsters and turn in reports of what was found on the beach. All students are encouraged to participate in this fun... yes, fun... clean-up day.

Directions to Fort Moultrie Visitor's Center - 1214 Middle Street on Sullivan's Island:
From Mt. Pleasant and U.S.. 17, follow the signs for SC703 and Sullivan's Island (SC703 is not the IOP connector. Coleman Blvd. becomes SC703 at the Royal Ace Hardware intersection.) Take SC703 to Sullivan's Island across the Ben Sawyer Bridge. Continue straight and turn right onto Middle Street. The Fort Moultrie Visitor Center parking lot will be on the right in 1.5 miles.

Fundraising

The following Fundraiser is for our General Operating Accounts. As long as we meet our budgeted goal, then 75% of profit from the Student Fundraisers (Fruit, Pie & Spring campaign) go to the student's accounts to help with your Fair Share Assessment and spring trips.

Great American Magazine Fundraiser
Our Great American Magazine Fundraiser was launched on Wednesday, September 4th and a packet was sent home with each student. We like this project because we don't have to sell anything! Just ask your neighbors, friends and family to RENEW their subscriptions (regardless of subscription expiration) through our fundraiser. This benefits our "customers" as subscriptions are slightly less, and we get part of the profit. A true win/win for everyone! Visiting your doctor's office? Ask them to renew their subscriptions.

REMINDER: Don't forget that subscriptions make great gifts, especially with the upcoming holidays! Our on-line sales will continue throughout the year! You can shop on-line at http://www.gaschoolstore.com/Login/Index and our Great American school code is 2699635. Have your friends and family renew subscriptions and continue supporting the Cario Band Program.

Concert Opportunities

Students are required to attend a minimum of 2 concerts (3 if you are working toward 6th Grade Honor Medal or 7th & 8th Grade Honor Band Award) per semester. A concert is defined as one where your student's instrument is being played. If you know of a concert opportunity with your church or in our community, please emailpresident@cariobands.org with a subject line of "Concert Opportunity" for the FTBR (please include the admission cost).

Reminder: Only one Wando Band Marching performance counts towards your concert attendance. Wando High School games are not a drop off event. Middle school students must be accompanied by an adult. This is a policy set by Wando High School Administration.
