Folks from all across the Lowcountry are still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Matthew - I hope your family and your home are okay! After a long break, I'm sure you're like me, and you were ready for school to start back today. Our student musicians have a tough task at hand; the Halloween Concert is coming up very soon! There are many announcements in this edition, so please read carefully -
LESSONS ACADEMY resumes normal schedule this week!
The Lessons Academy returns to the normal schedule this week. Please follow up with your student's private teacher with any questions.
7th Grade Band Early Morning Rehearsal - - Thursday, October 13Th
In preparation for their Halloween Concert performance, the 7th Grade Band has their first early morning rehearsal on Thursday, October 13th at 7:15 AM. Attendance is mandatory.
Annual Pie Sale Starts Monday, October 17th!
You should've received an email from Liz Potter regarding the Annual Pie Sale fundraiser. Proceeds from this fundraiser go directly toward student accounts, so sell as much as you can. Order forms will be sent home Friday, October 14th, and pies are to be picked up on November 16th. Mark your calendars for Nov 16!
Calling all BoxTops!
It's time for the Cario Band Box Tops Contest! Each box top collected gives our band program 10 cents! So get busy cutting out your box tops and send them in. They add up fast! But the BoxTops in a Ziploc bag or an envelope, and make sure you label it with the following information:
Student's name
Number of BoxTops
Band Class (6B, 6W, 7B, 7W, 8)
BoxTops must be turned in by THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20th!
7th and 8th Grade Uniform Night - MAKEUP DATE
The last Uniform fitting day for 7th and 8th-grade students will be next Wednesday, October 19th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM outside the Cario Band room! This is a makeup date for Hurricane Matthew and will be the final opportunity for any remaining 7th and 8th-grade students that need to be fitted for their concert uniform. 6th Grade Uniform Pants
The deadline to purchase the black uniform pants from Stagecoach has passed. We still have about 45 6th-grade students that need their uniform pants ordered! Please take care of this ASAP! Please email our Uniform chair with any questions at uniforms@cariobands.org.
Region Band And All-State Auditions
We are beginning registration for the All County Clinic, Region Auditions, and All-State auditions. A hard copy of the registration form came home with the students yesterday. Please note, we do not have a location for the Region clinic set yet due to a scheduling conflict with CSU. We will let you know where that clinic will be as soon as we hear.
Registration forms are due Thursday, October 20th. If the form is turned in late, students will not be registered. We have a hard deadline we have to follow with the SC Band Directors Association.
We strongly encourage ALL 7th and 8th-grade students to prepare and participate in these auditions. These auditions are something that Cario Band students do very well on. Last year we had 120 students audition, and over 90 of those students were selected to participate in Region or All-State.
Smart Music Assignments
Be sure to check your classroom assignments for all grades! Assignments are posted frequently and are announced in class. These assignments are a part of your child's grade, so make sure they are working hard and doing their best!
More Concert Crew Needed
We had one family join the CREW for concert help! In case you missed it, we are forming a CONCERT CREW to help setup and tear down before and after concerts. It does require a little manual labor, but we're mostly looking for supervisors to help guide the band students - they'll do most of the work! If you're interested, please email Nick Holland at president@cariobands.org and we'll get you signed up.
