From the President

Congratulations to the stellar 6th-grade band and their straight superiors at the Carowinds Music Festival last Friday! Thanks to all the parents that came along to help out! I hated to miss it, but I was taking my former 6th-grader on some college visits…eek! It really does go by quickly…We have a handful of events on the immediate radar (as in, THIS WEEK), so read on friends!

Recitals This Week!

Hopefully you have seen the emails from Mrs. Mumford about the recitals this week, and I will echo (echo…echo…) those! The first round of recitals was tonight, and the next batch is Wednesday April 26, 2017 at 6:00 PM and at 7:15 PM in the Cario Band room. These are mixed recitals (not designated woodwinds or brass or sarrusophone or multipavilion), so come out and enjoy solos, duets, trios, quartets, quintets, and…well, you get the picture. These are eligible for concert credit, which all students pursuing the honor medal must complete.

Cario Band Bookworm Angel Drive -
Volunteer Hours Anyone?

Did I mention the honor medal requirements? (note the silky segue…) All Cario Band families are asked to volunteer at least 3 hours in various events or functions in the Cario Band family. The next event is the BOOKWORM ANGEL DRIVE! It opened today, and runs through Wednesday, May 3. Bookworm Angels is a nonprofit organization that helps at risk children in the Charleston area improve their reading skills by providing new or gently used fun books to area public schools where many children are reading below grade level. Instead of placing them in large boxes (as indicated on the form online), please place books in the hallway up against the wall toward the gym doors in front of the band room. Please send in new or gently used fun books for pre-K through 8th grade reading levels. Please no religious, textbooks, or encyclopedias! So please look on your bookshelves, your attics, ask your friends and neighbors if they have any appropriate books they'd like to donate that could help a child learn the enjoyment of reading. Download the form from the FORMS link on the Cario Band website.

Pinckney Recruiting Day

Friday April 26th (next week) is our annual Recruiting Day at Pinckney. If you have a younger student at home, dig out those hand-me-down swanky Cario Band shirts and have the younger sibling sport them at Pinckney all week! Then on Friday, the Cario Jazz Band (affectionately known as Doctor Funk and the disciples of Soul) will put on a show for the Pinckney students that will rival any hype video you've seen. Trust me…okay, I made up the nickname, but trust me on the ramped up concert…the squealing might make your ears bleed…in a good way…

Instrument Testing May 2

Do you have a rising 6th grader? Do you know folks that do? Please pass along what could possibly be the most important day of their lives - INSTRUMENT TESTING DAY at Cario! This is an opportunity for rising 6th graders to try out different instruments and to get a feel for which instrument will work best for them. It's also a chance for parents to learn a little bit more about the Cario Band program, pull back the curtain to see what awesomeness looks like up close. We'll have more details coming soon, but plan on helping out if you've got some time between 4:00 and 8:00 PM on Thursday May 2. We will need LOTS of help from the 8th graders, so please make your 8th grader available that afternoon!

Jazz Band & Percussion Ensemble, Not So Fast…

The Cario Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble are NOT performing this Thursday, April 27 at 7:00 PM in the Cario Gym. That concert has been moved back a few weeks - I'll double check and report back. THEN you may come out and spend an evening of swing, funk, and overall hip-ness with us! Be careful though - their cool is contagious!

7th and 8th Uniform Check-in,
May 22-26, 2017

Uniforms may checked-in starting Monday, May 22, 2017.

Wash uniforms in COLD water and Dry on low heat or hang to dry. They MUST be washed before returning. They can be dry-cleaned, but the washing machine works just fine.

DO NOT wash the cummerbund or bow tie!

Please send your child's uniform on a hanger.

Fill out the Uniform Check-in Form (posted on our Website Welcome Page) with your child's first and last name, their band class, and pin this to their uniform. There are some blank forms outside the band room if you forget. We MUST account for everyone's uniform.

If your 6th grader can't wear their black pants anymore (and you don't have them earmarked for something else), we are gladly accepting those as donations, provided they are in decent condition.

Join The Cario Band Boosters!

Another shameless plug for participating on the Cario Booster Board next year! I've heard from a handful of folks and will GLADLY get you all plugged in. BUT, there's room for several more eager and able-bodied folks (okay, just eager) to join in the fun that is the Cario Band Booster team! What could be more fun? Don't answer that…
